Dust Angels
  --24 February, 2008, 11:50:16
Genghis Con went well. My classes were a lot of fun and I won the Master's category. I'll try to get my entry posted in the next couple of days. At the moment I am without internet. (I'm melting! I'm melting!!) In addition to slow posting it's also harder for me to answer emails. So please forgive me if I'm a tad slow to reply.
This lack of connected-ness is due to my cousin finishing her house remodel and moving into it. It was quite a complicated business--starting at the rooftop, down to the foundation and back up again. So after a year and a half I finally get to unpack from my own move. Wheee!
One of the great Gengis traditions is the post con ski trip. Many thanks to Kris and Jordan for your awesome instruction. The weather was just perfect, although a tad sunny for my winterized Seattle eyes. My only fall of the day was at the end, on flat ground. I'm fairly proud of this, because I did my first black diamond and learned how to do moguls.

A bit of history
  --13 February, 2008, 21:23:52
I've posted a picture of my very first mini.
Lab this week was fun. We got to study mutant worms. There were not one, but two incidents where a plate of worm went flying. I had nothing to do with either.
I'm off to Genghis Con until Tuesday. Whee! Hooky is fun.

Advance to the stone age
  --8 February, 2008, 21:32:57
A while back I heard that when obsidian fractures, the flakes it makes are sharper than steel. I don't quite understand why that is--I leave the geo-knowledge to my mother. However it did sound like a chance to upgrade my scalpel.
So I found a chunk of obsidian and beat the carp out of it in my basement. I found a tiny sliver and inserted it into an old brush handle with the aid of super glue and green stuff.
By golly, it is indeed sharper than my scalpel. Unfortunately it isn't sturdy enough to scrape off mold lines. It wasn't regular enough to be useful in shaving dried putty. Now I have an ideal tool if ever need to slice off very small bits of putty.
The slicing my fingers received was minimal.

I had a midterm this morning. The scary one is on Monday. I have nothing witty to say today.
