Real Ladies Don't Guffaw
  --26 May, 2007, 15:22:57

They titter, or so I'm told. This makes a lot of sense if the real lady happens to be wearing a corset. Last night at gaming was coret night. All the girls laced ourselves up in our finest. It was a lot of fun dressing up. There's a problem with this plan though. Gaming is a lot of fun. 15-20 people have been showing up for Friday gaming, and we tend to laugh a lot. Which doesn't work if you're in a corset. I darn near died laughing, but I'd brought along a tank top to change into, so it all turned out ok.

I'm also glad that I'd changed out of the corset, because at the end of the evening, as folks were making their goodbyes, a pillow fight broke out. The age range of the group is from 20something to 40something. It's been over a dozen years since my last pillow fight. It was very refreshing. Actually it was rather like the old pie fight silent movies.

Home Again
  --22 May, 2007, 10:56:40

I got home from Reapercon yesterday. It felt more like Sunday night, but it was in fact yesterday morning. Long layovers aren't my favorite.

Reapercon was very fun. It was great seeing all my painting friends in one place. Sadly, I only took third in the painting contest. My two year streak of taking only first place trophies is over now. It's kind of nice to have the pressure off actually. I couldn't have been beaten by nicer, or more talented people.

There was a downside to my visit though. I had to choose between my love of new bugs and my dislike of chigger bites. There were many exotic bugs down in Texas. Including a giant Manduca caterpillar, a black widow spider, and something that I can't identify even to its order (!). Unfortunately I found about a dozen chiggers. For those who have never met any of these dastardly bugs before, their bites are like mosquitos X 100.

Busy Week
  --14 May, 2007, 10:51:45

There was a nice big biology test on Friday last week. It went pretty well. Although there was a moment of panic on Tuesday, when I realized the test was that Friday, not today. (Monday)

Painting is going well. My Reapercon entry is all but done. That feels very good.

Learning to drive is still going pretty well. Yesterday Tibbles asked me to pick up a few of his car-less friends. One thing that made this trip exciting was that he wasn't joining me. (I still had company, to be legal, and less scared.) Still it wasn't Tibbles. He's very good about letting me know when to turn on my turn signal, when to turn, how far to pull forward etc. Another exciting part was my first voyage on to the freeway, and then onto the curvy, trafficky and fully peopled streets of Capitol Hill. The third thing that made the trip extra fun were the people I was picking up. They were all acomplished smartasses. This is a trait that I appreciate very much in day to day life. Albeit slightly less so when I'm behind the wheel.

All in all the driving went fairly well. But after that, I thought I deserved a small present. One that I've always wanted. It's the BBC series called, "Life in the Undergrowth." Basically it's bug porn. I roped a couple of the lads and forced them to watch it. It turns out that they very much enjoyed it, and even suggested watching another episode.

Perhaps I'll bring it to Reapercon.

A Mini for May
  --8 May, 2007, 21:10:06

This month's mini is up now in my eBay section.

Tork the Ork
  --7 May, 2007, 18:38:17

Today I have another pretty mini for you to look at. He's Tork from Rackham. There'll be another pretty mini up tomorrow too.

I had a lot of fun with Tork. The patterns on his cloak are Orkish runes. The Rackham orks are based off of aborigines, so I painted the runes to resemble their splatter paint technique.

That's Hot
  --6 May, 2007, 19:42:17

The Seattle Art Museum had its grand re-opening this weekend. To celebrate, they stayed open the whole weekend and had free admission. They also had a group of fire dancers called Pyrosutra come and perfom. They were as awesome as they sound. :) I went with some of the lads from my D&D group. We had a really wonderful time. My attention was divided between the fine art displays and the artistic folks who were encouraged to dance to the happening beats that the museum was playing.

In other news, the sparrow babies that live in the fan above my kitchen sink have hatched. I can hear them peeping from here.

I can fly!
  --4 May, 2007, 20:38:13

Well, not really. But I can drive. Legally even, if there's someone over 25 in the car with me. If it sounds odd to you that I can't drive, please remember that I've spent most of my life in Seattle--a city with a rather spiffy system of buses. So I got my learner's permit, and went out driving with my friend Tibbles. Tibbles is not a person to do anything half way, so he had me drive on very congested, slightly curvy roads at rush hour. What a way to learn! I only came close to bumping another car once.
