a day in the life
  --23 July, 2007, 18:37:48
Since I'm so busy with school, painting for Gencon and I'm a typical American, it's a pretty safe assumption that I'm addicted to caffeine. My vehicle of choice is Diet Coke. To prevent over-consumption, I tend to only keep one or two in the fridge at a time. Sometimes I forget to replace them. This doesn't work so well with the OMG-I-need-Diet-Coke-now moments of my life. In such cases I toss one in the freezer. This works pretty well if I remember that I've done it. Except I usually need caffeine to remember. Last night was somewhat unusual. After forgetting to take the Diet Coke out of the freezer, I remembered it right before bedtime. Thankfully even though it was frozen solid, I got to it before it had exploded. I put it in the fridge, to assist me through the following morning. It turns out that eight hours is not enough time for a frozen cola to defrost in the fridge. So my first caffeine of the day was somewhat exciting.
On an unrelated note, my cousin had a migraine this morning. I'm pretty sure it wasn't my fault. She tossed a bathrobe over her head--to help with the funny colored migraine lights, I presume. Our first encounter of the day was when, thusly attired, she walked into the kitchen and found me bent over the sink gulping down an exploding cola as fast as I was able.
It's only one eighth of a genome that we share, but it's a doozy.

Some new faces
  --16 July, 2007, 18:53:51
You may have noticed some new face in my bar of random mini heads. They're in my gallery as well. : )
The first new mini is another take on the Freebooter nurse. The second mini is Vanda from Newbold World.
I got my Biology test back today. I only got a B+. I'm gonna have to work harder.
In the meantime, two of my gencon entries are almost finished. It's that time of year again. I'm doing my best not to overload myself. It's particularly easy to catch a case of "gencon head" right about now.

I had a biology test on Monday. The first of the quarter. It went pretty well.
Seattle is in the middle of a heatwave. This has made the biology prof a little unpopular. You see, she didn't like the overhead projectors in the fancy new electronic engineering building. So she moved her class to the oldest building on campus--trading the Imax style auditorium with its lovely airconditioning for a better projector. We just wrapped up the enzyme part of the course. I can confidently say that the enzyme thinkase denatures in heat.
Even the birds are addle pated. Yesterday a sparrow flew down my chimney. The cat was very excited and told me all about it. After shutting the cat away, I let the bird out of the stove. It flew directly to the front door. I had just enough time to think how smoothly the process went, when I heard the traumatized sparrow take refuge in the safest place it knew. The chimney. This time it was unwilling to fly down the chimney to be released. The poor little guy spent all day and all night in there. When I let him out again this morning the little brown bird had turned into a little black bird. On his way out he ran into the ceiling and several walls, leaving little black bird prints.
There's a laundry basket on the chimney now to prevent re-entry.

Teeth Skin

This quarter looks like it's going to be a busy one. You may have gathered that, since it's been two weeks or so since my last news post. There's a reason for that. Several actually. Thermodynamics is the big one. That class is scary, and it has a lot of homework. Biology is less scary than last quarter, but there's still a lot of reading. Then there's Gencon. The list of minis that need to be painted "by gencon" is really intimidating. I don't think I'll be painting a mini for eBay this month. There just won't be time for it. I finished June's commission mini the last day of the month.
Of course there are less mature and responsible reasons for being swamped. Like on Saturday, when my friends threw a (sort of) surprise birthday party. How can you cut that short? Of course there's always the lure of summer in Seattle. Yesterday I recieved an invitation to hike to a glacier. It's only seven miles, it won't take but a few hours. I'm weak. I went. Course it turned out that the road was washed out, so the hike turned into 17 miles.
It was worth it though. The glacier was huge and awesome. A me-sized hunk of rock jumped off while we were watching. I drank some runoff and sang the They Might be Giant's song, "I'm older than I've ever been *sip* and now I'm even older *sip* and now I'm older still." (Hi mom!) Which is doubly fitting since I turned 27 today.
