Slow week
  --24 November, 2008, 20:25:58

It's been a slow week. I sprained my foot on Thursday so I haven't been outside much. There isn't even a good story to go with the injury. I wore shoes that have been proven comfy for lengths not to exceed two miles. Wearing them for a three mile walk was a bad plan.

In other shoe and painting news, Privateer Press's paint-- Sanguine Base--exactly matches the color of my Danskos and hid all of the scuffs.

So yeah. Slow week. This week's mini update isthe Gorgon the Gorgon from Darksword Minatures.

The Joys of Pet Ownership
  --17 November, 2008, 2:11:47

So, I have fish. They live in a large tank in the living room. Every now and again one of them hops out, but then I toss it back in and they're fine. I suspect they dislike the names escape attempts generate for them--Patty and Dusty so far.

One of the problems with the fish tank is that it makes my house really humid. For several weeks there was moisture on the windows, and everywhere else, really. This week I noticed that the steam coating had turned to a mold coating. Needless to say the whole house has been Lysoled. I imagine my folks sent out emails to the tune of, "The Joys of Parenthood." The imaginary responses, to this imaginary email tend to go, "She molded the house. As in had to wash the windows, woodwork and bits of the floor? She's how old?"

It's been one of those weeks. In biochem lab we were working with a substance whose MSDS reads: MAY BE FATAL IF INHALED, ABSORBED THROUGH SKIN OR SWALLOWED. Yeah, you guessed it. Right in the face. Fortunately it was a small amount, pretty dilute and relatively degraded. Still, I've felt kinda crappy all weekend, hopefully it was just the flu that's going around.

This week's gallery update is Broadsides Bart, who won 1st place in his category at the Privateer Contest at Gencon. For anyone who enjoys finding flaws, I've posted a full size picture of him too.

You learned the darndest things in college.

Last Thursday I learned what cooked human smells like. During lunch hour I came out of the library to the sound of sirens, a disturbed throng of students and thick white smoke obscuring everything. From the smell, and the location on campus, my first guess was that a fund raising barbeque had had an accident. When the smoke cleared, we learned that a former UW professor had decided to end himself with fire and gasoline.

I'm not comfortable with mistaking cooked human for a barbeque.

On that thought, let me introduce my diorama from this summer. The Dragon and the Un-Wise Barbarian.
