Someone shot off Bart's hat. It's a bad day to be that person. He won 1st place in his category at this summer's Privateer contest. Click here for mega Bart. (Full size image)
The barbarian saw the dragon before she saw him. He crept up, unseen behind the rocks and launched his surprize attack. The dragon, whose drink at the pond was rudely interupted, has a moment to wonder why lunch is attacking her. Her baby is very scared that someone would dare be mean to his mom .
One of Crogodile Game's new Pathfinder minis.
There was a sexy barbarian miniature on my painting table while I was working on this Demoness by Darksword miniatures. One morning I came in to discover that her knees and her bum were pink. Naughty demoness!
He was a commission for George R.R Martin. I wish I'd taken a picture for scale because these details are tiny.
Another cute Pathfinder mini.
A small pewter version of me by darksword miniatures. Now everyone can have their own Marike! It's odd painting oneself...my skin is a mixture of Flat Flesh and Green Ochre.
This sewer scene has a poop monster! </10 year old mentality> Lodoni and the Sewer Monster won its category at Gencon 2008.
I gave the Lannister Lady in Waiting some freckles so that she wouldn't be prettier than Cersei Lannister.
This is Deva from Reaper miniatures. She's fairly old, I painted her just after an unpleasant break up. I was feeling grumpy that day, so I made a list of names of people that had really wound me up in the past, and painted their names on the central cloth bit...in cuneiform.
I really love Dark Sword's line of courtly amphibians.
The rare dryopus is a solitary, chaotic evil creature. She won the Master's category at Reapercon 2008.
Nothing says evil quite like tearing the fabric of space/time or one's cloak and leaving lichtenberg figure.
This is the new Barbarian Female from Freebooter miniatures. I enjoyed painting her. It's not too often that I get to paint seriously pissed off minis.
Alexia, from Privateer Press, was also a commission piece. Tragically, she's only the second Kev White mini that I've ever painted. That's Cryxian on her cloak.
Lodoni was a comission mini. The ruined column on her base used to be aquarium terrain before it was smashed with a hammer. I really like the teeny tiny poison dart frogs.
This mini, one of the Three Queens, from Freebooter, won the master's category at Genghis Con. Also, she was an important lesson in improving my photography. :P Here's the before picture. The grittiness was fixed by making sure that the camera lens was getting the same amount of light that the mini was.
I thought it would be fun to show a picture of my first mini ever.
It took me quite a while to realize that there was such a thing as matte varnish. I had been given a bottle of gloss varnish and didn't know that there was an alternative.
I was so proud of her eyes. Not only do they have a color, they also have a black dot!
These are Darksword's fun loving twins, Jaime and Cersei Lannister of George R. R Martin's famous series.
Ever since painting the first version of this mini I've wanted to paint an evil version. So this is the Black Pearl. She's not of African descent, but for some reason Dark Pearl didn't have quite the same ring. I really like her little angler fish. It seems that even evil needs cute.
This is Aisha of the Warcrow Dark elves. I picture her as a harem girl who got fed up with her line of work. First she found her way into the armory, and now she's headed to the treasury, since everyone knows that's where evil people hang out. I suspect that her next stop will be the larder.
Little Miss Pigtails and Smokey were painted to be part of Newbold World's ongoing charity drive for Children in Need. : ) She has been sold by private sale.
Jim Ludwig of Darksword Miniatures had the ever so talented Tom Meier sculpt a miniature version of his wife and schnauzers to celebrate the company's fifth anniversary. Way cool. This was the first miniature I painted after giving up brush licking and wiping it on my thumb. It took almost three weeks.
Skarre won this year's Privateer Press painting contest. Some late nights went into her and she had her own theme music. I didn't like the pewter representations of broken wood on her base. They were cut out and replaced with splintered balsa which I think looks much more woodlike. Many thanks to Ron Kruzie for the photography.
There was this field where I used to live. In the summer it was wonderful. There were hawks, and bugs and muskrats. All that remained of a very old building was a crumbling foundation, and at night the fireflies would come out. When winter came all of that vanished. The grass became short and grey and the lush bushes were reduced to sticks. It seemed to me that if ever there was a place for an extra planar visitor, this would be it. And so we have a wasteland angel.
This is Dixie Dynamite from Freebooter miniatures. I'm not quite sure what she's shouting but I strongly suspect that it's a rousing, "Yeehaw!"
Jade the Dancing girl from Reaper has taken her trade to umm... somewhat more exotic levels. : ) She's a commission that I painted up to Gencon level, where she took first in her category.
This is a conversion from the Freebooter Succubus, and the wings from Reaper's Deva. She won first in her category this year at Gencon. I'm quite pleased, since the conversion required me to sculpt some feathers, which is not my strong suit. The nifty candles are from Freebooter.
Jeff Grace sculpted this lovely Female Fighter for Darksword miniatures. I'm particularly fond of the way he sculpts faces. She'll be released in September.
This is Vanda from Ian Newbolds range at Newbold World.
A few entries down, you'll see my first take on Freebooter's Sister of Mercy. I mentioned that she'd be even creepier if she was painted to look as though she belonged in a children's ward. I received several requests to paint her as such. Perhaps someday I'll do a pink version, but for now here you go; a lavender nurse with a my little pony.
First Mate Sela doesn't plan on being first mate for very much longer. The unfortunate captain of her vessel wrecked it, and she figures that it's high time for a promotion.
Her monkey is a little sad. Some bananas went down with the ship.
This is Lord Jester from Reaper. The mini was sculpted in the image (or at least to the specifications) of the original Jester, Robert Cruze. I painted him up for the Reapercon contest where he took third. He now resides in the display case of the original Jester.
This a Reaper/Freebooter chimera. Hooray for conversions! I've painted her for eBay, but I'm really rather fond of her.
This is Tork the Ork from Rackham. I did him for a commission.
This is the Variant Pirate Lass from Darksword Miniatures. She is a conversion off of the Pirate Lass. I've painted her to look like Zoey from Firefly.
This is the Pirate Lass from Darksword Miniatures. She was sculpted by Tom Meier, and is one of the tiniest, most delicate minis I've ever painted. I really had fun making her clothes gaudy and colorful. If I was a pirate, I'd dress like this.
This is probably going to be my largest project. It's also my first conversion. I turned the priest's head and added the scroll arm to Dargu Ra. It was best of show at Gencon 2006.
This priestess is one of my favorite minis. She's not super flashy, but she's one of my cleanest minis ever.
Alastriel won fourth place at Gencon 2005.
This is another of my favorites. She won people's choice at Genghis con 2006.
This is the naughty fairy. She won Best of Show at Kublacon 2006. I think she's really more feral than naughty though.
A nice mini from Dark Age Miniatures.
This is Mad Rogat. He won the Origins 2005 Master's category. He was a lot of fun to paint. I gave him a black toenail, because I had recently run into something myself. (Clumsy) Although I did feel bad for the poor little cat on his belt. It's little paw pads are painted in.
The Future Widow is fun because it's uncertain whether she's a widow from the future, or is about to become a widow.
I think that this Amazon from Dark Sword Miniatures was the last work of Dennis Mize--a talented sculptor that I never met. Indirectly, he is the source of my appreciation of really bad movies.
What a neat mini! I'm very fond of this sculpt. It won people's choice at Genghis Con 2005.
Aundine was my first mini to break a 9 on coolmini.
Freya won second place at Gencon 2004. I like the stripes on her armor.
This was on of the first Werner minis I painter for Reaper, foreshadowing things to come... :)
Hooray for Bast! (My favorite Wargods faction) This harbinger won best of show at Origins 2004.
This Basti heroine was something I looked forward to painting for a long time. In fact, I was unable to sleep until I'd finished her. Yeah... you know you're a mini painter when...
The little cat is cute.
Woohoo!
I love this one. The little cat on the box is in just the right position to go well with the fish seller.
She won a Golden Demon at GD Chicago 2005.
Hamster!!! His name is Nigel. He took second place in Masters at Genghis con 2005.
She's a master, and was desperately needed for a gencon. Her primer came out super fuzzy, which was fixed mostly with paint on varnish.
She won Best in Show at Salute 2006.
This one the first Warmachine Manufacturer's award at Gencon. 2003 was it?
I wish you could see it in this picture, but this is a little science geek. Her books are Feynman's Physics, the Merck Index and something I can't remember. The one she's holding has a nice illumination of a beetle. She just found her missing glasses too. :)
She's based on Kikkoman soy sauce--colors, log and trim.
She's got a few grey hair too.
This fellow was the mini I used in the blending article in Undefeated Magazine.
He's my first piece for Freebooter.
She won the masters category at Reapercon 2005.
This was fun, and it won the masters category at Genghis con 2006.
I love this mermaid. She looks so sad. She won her category at Gencon 2006.
This handsome frog won best of show at Gencon 2005.
He was the first piece I painted for Crocodile Games.
I love his little garial snoot.
The only way she'd be creepier is if I painted her lavender and did the base up to look like she works in the children's ward.
You gotta love the hot Werner chick goodness.
She's another one of my favorites.
Another pretty Werner woman.
